Return back to Singapore

In the afternoon at Hong Kong airport, my Hong Kong disciples and my cousin sent me off. They were very nice to me while I was there.

Then I was in the plane and heading towards Singapore. It was a comfortable journey and I was thinking of the past great events that happened in Hong Kong, especially the last programme that was yesterday afternoon's releasing of fishes. There were more than 700 people participating and all were on board a ship which provides drinks and lunch. It was really a nice time for everyone. His Holiness Karmapa was also with us and many Rinpoches, Khenpos and Lamas joined in this meritorious event which was joyous for everyone.

In fact, what we always treasure most is our life and this not only applies to humans but every living being. We always encounter situations where tiny insects do everything they can to ensure the safety of their lives. So basically, this world is shared by every living being and all have a right to live. In the practice of Buddhism, we infuse our thoughts with loving kindness and compassion and therefore feel the responsibility of liberating all sentient beings from the sufferings of Samsara. We develop Bodhichitta and aim to attain enlightenment for the sake of liberating all sentient beings. In the meantime, temporarily, we can try to ease the sufferings of any individual as part of our practice, such as releasing life to eradicate the threat of being slaughtered for food, which is a terrible way to die. It is a gift of freedom from us to them. Imagine how grateful we will feel if we ourselves faced such a terrible situation and someone prevented the tragedy from happening. So I rejoice at the great act of liberating the fishes from death. I heard that around 40,000 fishes were released and I could see that HH Karmapa was very happy with this programme.

Before this programme, on the 10th of February, there was a grand dinner to raise funds for the Infinite Compassion Foundation which was founded by HH Shamar Rinpoche. I was particularly amazed by HH Shamar Rinpoche's speech in which he described how everyone should generate loving kindness not just to humans but also to every being on earth. This mother earth is the home of all living beings and therefore everyone has an equal right to live on this earth. Nobody has the right to torture others or take life. His speech really gave awareness to everyone about how cruel beings are to take the life of others.

There were many important people who attended the dinner, including the Bhutanese Queen and Princess. Also there were some Hong Kong movie stars who were there, but I don't know who is who as I don't watch Chinese movies. The dinner is meant to raise funds for an eye hospital that is going to be built in Bhutan for the poor people and also for various beneficial projects that the Infinite Compassion Foundation is planning to have in the future.

During my flight I was reflecting all these great events and finally the plane landed in Singapore.
In the airport, many of my disciples and the Lamas were waiting eagerly and some of them were carrying flowers to offer to me. I felt joyful to see my disciples and the members of Karma Kagyud Buddhist Centre in Singapore.
